MAY 7 2008, BEDFORD, NS : Paul St.Amand's debut film Parallels has been voted into the Top Ten shortlist in the documentary category at Spike Lee's Babelgum Online Film Festival. The film will now be presented to the festival's jury, who will select the best two films from each category. These in turn will be judged by festival chairman Spike Lee.
"This is a huge thrill," said St.Amand. "When I heard Spike Lee was involved with Babelgum's festival, I just had to submit our film. But I'm not sure I expected to make it this far."
Parallels is a documentary profiling U.S. military deserters from the Vietnam and Iraq wars. The film was previously an official selection of the Vancouver International Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival, and YoungCuts Film Festival. Parallels also won the Canadian Reflections Award at the 2007 Air Canada enRoute Student Film Festival, Best Documentary at the 2007 BC Student Film Festival, and is a current nominee for the Budweiser Filmmaker Discovery Award at the Triggerstreet Online Film Festival.
